What packing costs in Melbourne
We price packing and unpacking as one figure for the whole job, agreed before we start. No hourly rate, no watching the clock, and no bill that grows before your eyes.
Here’s what to expect, based on the Melbourne homes we’ve packed and unpacked since 2017.
| Home size | Estimated packing price | Estimated unpacking price |
|---|---|---|
| Studio | $450 – $550 | $350 – $450 |
| 1 bedroom | $600 – $800 | $450 – $600 |
| 2 bedrooms | $850 – $1,150 | $650 – $850 |
| 3 bedrooms | $1,250 – $1,650 | $900 – $1,150 |
| 4+ bedrooms | From $1,750 | From $1,250 |
All prices include GST, along with every box, roll of tape and sheet of paper we use. Estimates assume an average amount of belongings for the size of the home, packed in a single visit.

Unpacking, so you’re settled in from day one
Packing gets all the attention, but unpacking is the part that drags. Boxes get opened one at a time over weeks, the spare room fills up, and the flattened cardboard sits in the hallway waiting for a hard rubbish collection.
To help you settle in straight away, we can unpack all your belongings for you on the day of your move or the day after. We’ll take cues from where things belonged in your old place, or you can direct us as we go to ensure every item is positioned just right, then take the empty boxes and paper with us so there’s nothing left to worry about.
How your packing service works
1. Get your price.
Send us a walkthrough video or tell us what’s there, and we’ll come back with one price for the pack, the move and anything else you need.
2. Lock in your date.
We’ll confirm when the packers will arrive, usually the day before your move. Small moves can sometimes be packed on moving day, or in the evening before.
3. We pack.
Room by room, everything labelled, with all the cartons and materials brought with us.
4. We move and unpack.
Your boxes go into the right rooms at the other end, and we can unpack them and take the cardboard away.
Pack, move and clean with the same team
We’ll pack your belongings on day one, move them the next day, then clean your old place on day three so your entire move is complete fast. We can even drop the keys back to your real estate agent’s office when the job’s done, to save you another trip.
What our customers say
We will definitely be using Their services in Nov for the second move
I would definitely recommend this family company to anybody that wants good, trustworthy , reliable, listens to your needs, and friendly service to anyone that needs moving.
Thank you Host Movers and I will definitely use your services again ♥️ 100%
The move was smooth from start to finish, and nothing felt rushed. If you’re looking for reliable removalists in Berwick or Cranbourne North, or need packing and moving services, I’d happily recommend these guys. Friendly team, fair pricing, and genuinely good service.
Packing homes across Melbourne
We cover the Melbourne metropolitan area, from the CBD out to the western and south-eastern growth corridors. That takes in the inner suburbs, the north, the east and the south-east – Carlton, Richmond, St Kilda, Brunswick, Essendon, Footscray, Port Melbourne, Williamstown, Point Cook and everywhere in between.
We run from depots in Melbourne’s CBD and Truganina, so we’re rarely far from wherever you’re moving.
All your Melbourne packing and unpacking questions answered
It comes down to how much there is to pack rather than how many bedrooms you have. Most Melbourne packing companies sell blocks of time and charge by the packer-hour after that, so the price moves if the job runs long. For an exact number, send us a video walkthrough and we’ll price it properly.
That depends on what your time is worth and how much notice you have. A full pack of a three-bedroom home is a job you can easily underestimate by days, not hours. And many people find themselves living out of boxes for weeks on either side of a move.
If you’re moving with small children, working full time or need to move in a hurry, hiring someone to pack for you is usually the one thing that makes the move manageable. If you have three weeks and a spare room to stack boxes in, packing yourself is realistic.
Yes, and they’re in the price we quote you. We provide high-quality packing materials, including a variety of box sizes, Port-a-Robes and butchers paper, to keep your belongings safe and can take the empty boxes away when we unpack your home at the other end.
Yes. Plenty of people pack their own clothes and books and hand over the fiddly rooms: the kitchen, garage or study. Tell us which rooms you want done and we’ll price those.
Less time than doing it yourself, and more than most people expect. What stretches a pack out is the kitchen, the garage and the shed – the rooms full of small, awkward things – rather than the bedrooms. We’ll give you an estimate of how long your place will take when we quote it, and we’ll send enough experienced packers to finish it in one visit.
We usually pack your home the day before, so move day starts with everything already sealed and labelled. A studio or a small one-bedroom can sometimes be packed and moved on the same day. Anything bigger than that needs the day before to be done properly.
We leave extra packing materials for any overnight essentials – like bedding, toiletries, and plates. You can pack those yourself, or our team can handle it for you on moving day.
It helps to be there at the start, so you can point out anything you’re keeping with you or packing yourself.
If you’d rather not be there at all, let us know how to get access and leave us a note about what’s staying.
We can’t pack or transport anything flammable, like paint, petrol, gas bottles and aerosols. We also don’t pack perishable food or items left in the fridge or freezer.
We recommend you keep small valuables like your passport, jewellery and cash with you on moving day rather than packed in a box.
Yes. Host Movers holds $10M public liability insurance, as well as goods in transit insurance, and that cover applies to items we’ve packed. Damage caused by poor packing generally isn’t covered by any removalist’s policy, so when you pack yourself the packing is your responsibility. When we pack, it’s ours.
For small homes, we can usually unpack everything the day you move in so you’re fully set up in your new place right away. For larger moves, we’ll unpack the essentials first so you can rest comfortably, then return the next morning to finish getting your new home set up.
If we unpack you, we can take the empty boxes with us on the day, along with the paper and bubble wrap. If you’re unpacking yourself, tell us when you’re done and we can come back and collect them. Either way, no flattened cardboard in the hallway waiting on a hard rubbish collection.
Yes. Furniture you’re not taking, the contents of the shed, whatever’s been in the garage since you moved in – we can load it and take it to the tip. Council tip fees are charged by item and weight, so point the camera at it in your video walkthrough and we’ll price it into your quote.
Yes. We pack offices, retail fit-outs and small warehouses, scheduled around your trading hours. We’ll disconnect and carefully pack your computers and tech, clearly labelling them to ensure no items are mixed up in the move. Files, comms equipment and storerooms are packed and labelled by where they’re going rather than where they came from.
We can also handle large desk disassembly and reassembly at the other end, as well as reconnecting computers and unpacking files and other equipment. Our goal is to make your move fast and efficient so your team are ready to start work in the new premises the very next day.
Two to three weeks is comfortable, and a little more if you’re moving at the end of the month or over a weekend. If your move is sooner than that, call us anyway – if we have the availability, we’d love to help you move.
