Moving day, minus the hassle

Moves are typically charged by the hour, and how long they take depends on the number of items needing to be moved and building access at each end (distance to truck, stairs and lift). The hourly rate is determined by the truck size and the number of professional movers needed to complete your relocation.

As a general guide:

Single items and small deliveries start at $82.50.

For peace of mind, you can also request a fixed price for the whole job.

Host Movers does not charge any service, depot, fuel or loading fees.

Three things worth checking:

1. Make sure you’re clear on what’s included in the quote. Host Movers charges a two- or three-hour minimum, depending on the booking, plus a 30-minute standard travel charge. Your quote includes everything and you’ll never be surprised by unexpected fees.
2. Confirm who will complete your move. Our movers are all experienced professionals, trained to our standards and part of our team. We never hire subcontractors which means we can ensure quality service for all our customers.
3. Be clear on insurance and what’s covered. Check the terms and conditions and ask questions. If a removalist can't tell you plainly what's covered and what isn't, that’s a red flag.

Not always. An hourly rate is only half the equation. The other half is how many hours the job takes, and a slower crew on a lower rate can easily cost more than a faster one on a higher rate. It's worth asking how long a job like yours usually takes, not just what the hourly rate is.

As a rough guide:

• A one-to-two-bedroom apartment usually takes three to five hours,
• A three-bedroom house takes four to seven hours, and
• A four-to-five-bedroom home takes five to eight hours.

Access can make a big difference: stairs, lift waits and sizes, and long carries all add time. We'll give you a realistic estimate when we quote.

Yes. Be completely packed before we arrive. Ensure your boxes are sealed, drawers emptied and that nothing’s left in the cupboards. Empty and turn off your fridge at least four hours before we arrive. Disassemble and reassemble your own furniture if you can, since that's time on the clock. And if your dates are flexible, ask about a weekday.

Some moving companies use subcontractors or third-party workers, which can lead to inconsistent service. At Host Movers, you’ll only ever work with experienced professionals who have been trained to meet our high standards.

Yes. Host Movers holds Goods in Transit (GIT) and Public Liability insurance. Our $10M public liability and goods in transit insurance cover property damage and loss or damage to your belongings during the move. However, damage caused by poor packing or incorrect labelling is generally not covered. If you’re packing yourself, make sure all items are securely packed and appropriately labelled to keep them safe and reduce loss.

If you require further protection for high value items, please contact us to arrange additional insurance coverage.

We take every precaution to avoid damage to both your property and belongings, but the insurance is good additional protection in case something goes wrong on the day.

It’s a good idea to book two to three weeks in advance of your move. The end of the month and weekends tend to get booked fastest, so if your date is fixed, it’s worth getting in early.

Saturday rates are the same as our weekday rates. Sundays and public holidays incur a surcharge which we will confirm with you at the time of booking.
